Mature content playback is restricted by default in the Crunchyroll app and requires an authenticated user account with the mature content playback setting explicitly enabled. This setting can be enabled through the Crunchyroll website via the Profile settings for the account. Once enabled, you will be able to play mature content through the app.

How can I use the offline viewing feature of the Crunchyroll application?

  1. Log in to your Crunchyroll Mega Fan or Crunchyroll Ultimate Fan account in the Nintendo Switch application.
  2. Select a video.

Do I need a microSD card to use offline viewing for the Crunchyroll app?

As offline viewing can use large amounts of data, it is strongly recommended (but not required) that users utilize a microSD card. If a microSD card is inserted in the Nintendo Switch system, offline content will be synced directly to the microSD card. If the device does not have a microSD card inserted, offline content will be synced directly to the device’s internal storage. If there is not enough space available for offline viewing, you will see an error message when attempting to sync the content.

How do I optimize for syncing offline content to my Nintendo Switch system?

There are several steps you can take to reduce the amount of time needed to sync all your offline viewing content to your device:

  • Avoid streaming video while syncing content
    • The Crunchyroll application will pause any ongoing offline viewing sync activities when you start video playback. If you are going to sync many videos, do so at a time when you are not playing video.
  • Ensure you have a strong, stable Internet connection
    • The stronger and more reliable your Internet connection, the faster the app will be able to sync offline content to your Nintendo Switch system. If connecting wirelessly, ensure that the signal strength to your Nintendo Switch system is strong, and avoid moving the device in such a way that could weaken the connection while content is syncing. If possible, utilize an Ethernet connection whenever possible to provide the optimal experience when syncing offline content to your device.
    • For additional information, see our article on how to troubleshoot your download speeds. Download speeds may also be increased slightly by adjusting the MTU value on your system to 1500.
  • Adjust your sleep settings to prevent the device from going into power save mode
    • To sync content for offline viewing, the Crunchyroll app needs to be open. If you have your Nintendo Switch system is set to enter Sleep Mode after a short duration, you may want to temporarily disable Auto-Sleep.
  • Connect your Nintendo Switch AC adapter to the console and to a power source when syncing content
    • Depending on how many videos you are syncing for offline viewing, it is recommended that your device is receiving power via an AC adapter or the Nintendo Switch dock to ensure that it has enough power to sync all the videos.

Can I play video while syncing offline content?

No. If you begin playing a video while downloading offline content, the syncing of offline content to your Nintendo Switch system will be paused. Once you stop playing a video, the application will automatically resume syncing so long as the application is open.

What happens if my Crunchyroll application is closed or the system enters Sleep Mode before I have synced all my offline content?

If the application is closed or is suspended, it will automatically pause any syncing of offline content. Once the application is opened again and can connect to the Internet, syncing of offline content will resume.

Is there any limit to how many offline viewing videos can be synced to my Nintendo Switch system at any given time?

No, there is no limit to the number of videos that can be synced at any given time. You are limited, however, by how much free space is available on your microSD card or your internal storage.

Can I save offline content to both a microSD card and my Nintendo Switch system’s internal storage?

No, you will only be able to save content to either a microSD card (if inserted) or to your device’s internal storage (if no microSD card is inserted).

How can I prevent my Nintendo Switch system from auto-dimming the screen or putting itself to sleep when watching video content?

You can adjust your Nintendo Switch system’s Sleep Mode settings to Suspend Auto-Sleep While Playing Media Content so you can watch your desired content without interruption.

I can log in to Crunchyroll, but I am having difficulty streaming videos. What should I do?

Issues related to video playback are generally the result of a slow internet connection or a poor wireless environment.

  1. Try our steps for troubleshooting slow network speeds to improve your connection.
  2. Try adjusting the video quality in the Playback Settings in the app.
  3. If you are having difficulty with a specific video, contact Crunchyroll for support.
