How to Charge the Nintendo 64 Controller

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Steps on how to charge the Nintendo 64 Controller for use with Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch consoles.

What to do

Follow the path below based on the console you're using.

  • Nintendo Switch 2
    While connected directly to the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter.

    Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) to the USB connector at the top of the Nintendo 64 Controller, and then to a wall outlet.


    While connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock.
    1. Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock and then to a wall outlet.
      • In order to charge the Nintendo 64 Controller, the Nintendo Switch 2 console does not need to be docked.
    2. Connect the USB charging cable to an available USB port on the dock, then to the USB connector at the top of the Nintendo 64 Controller.
  • Nintendo Switch
    While connected directly to the Nintendo Switch AC adapter.

    Connect the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model No. HAC-002) to the USB connector at the top of the Nintendo 64 Controller and then to a wall outlet.


    While connected to the Nintendo Switch dock.
    1. Connect the Nintendo Switch AC adapter to the Nintendo Switch dock and then to a wall outlet.
      • In order to charge the Nintendo 64 Controller, the Nintendo Switch console does not need to be docked.
    2. Connect the USB charging cable to an available USB port on the dock, then to the USB connector at the top of the Nintendo 64 Controller.

Additional information

  • It takes approximately 3.5 hours to fully charge a Nintendo 64 Controller.
  • Once the Nintendo 64 Controller is fully charged, the recharge LED beside the USB connector will shut off.
  • The Nintendo 64 Controller can also be charged by connecting it to a licensed accessory, such as the Dual USB PlayStand for Nintendo Switch Lite from HORI.
