How to Pair the Nintendo 64 Controller
In this article, you'll learn how to pair the Nintendo 64 Controller to a Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console.
Important: The console must be powered on. It is not possible to pair a controller while the console is in sleep mode.

Nintendo Switch 2
The Nintendo 64 Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the following ways:
Button pairing or wireless pairing
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers, then Change Grip/Order.
- While on the "Change Grip/Order" screen, press and hold down the SYNC Button for at least one second on the Nintendo 64 Controller you wish to pair.
USB connection pairing (Directly to Nintendo Switch 2)
Connect the Nintendo 64 Controller to the Nintendo Switch 2 using a compatible USB-C cable.
USB connection pairing (Docked)
- Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the dock.
- Connect the Nintendo 64 Controller to the dock with the USB charging cable.
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers, then Change Grip/Order.

Nintendo Switch – OLED Model
The Nintendo 64 Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model console in the following ways:
Button pairing or wireless pairing
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers, then Change Grip and Order.
- While on the "Change Grip and Order" screen, press and hold down the SYNC Button for at least one second on the Nintendo 64 Controller you wish to pair.
USB connection pairing
- Place the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model console in the dock.
- Connect the Nintendo 64 Controller to the dock with the USB charging cable.
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers, then Change Grip and Order.

The Nintendo 64 Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch console in the following ways:

Nintendo Switch Lite
Important: The Nintendo 64 Controller can be used as a wired controller with Nintendo Switch Lite using a licensed accessory, such as the Dual USB PlayStand for Nintendo Switch Lite from HORI.
The Nintendo 64 Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch Lite console in the following ways:
Button pairing or wireless pairing
- From the HOME Menu, select Controllers, then Change Grip and Order.
- While on the "Change Grip and Order" screen, press and hold down the SYNC Button for at least one second on the Nintendo 64 Controller you wish to pair.
USB connection pairing
Place Nintendo Switch Lite on the Dual USB PlayStand (or other licensed accessory), then connect to it the Nintendo 64 Controller using the USB charging cable.
