Error Code: 003-4100 – 003-4199
The information in this article can help you when the Nintendo 3DS system was not able to connect to or locate the access point.
Note: As of April 8, 2024, online play and other functionality that uses online communication has ended for Nintendo 3DS family software.
Possible solutions
- Check for Maintenance or Service outages
If this error code only appears when attempting to connect to Nintendo eShop, review our Network Status page to ensure there are no service notifications.
- Connecting to a Hotspot?
If you are connecting to a Hotspot rather than to a home wireless network, verify the following:
- Ensure the Hotspot location does not require an internet browser to setup an account, accept a user agreement, or enter a password before accessing their Wi-Fi service. If the location requires any of these items, you will not be able to connect to the Internet with your Nintendo 3DS.
- Make sure that the Nintendo 3DS is within 30 feet of the wireless access point and facing in its general direction. Signal strength can vary, depending on where the access point's signal is coming from. (Please do not sit or stand in places that will interfere with the location's customers or staff.)
- Orientate the Nintendo 3DS so that your body or other objects (such as walls, plants, furniture, and other people) are not blocking the signal. Also, make sure there is no interference from wireless phones (cell phones are okay).
- If the connection continues to fail, the Hotspot may have their router set up in a manner that is not compatible with the Nintendo 3DS.
- Create a new connection file.
Set up a new connection file to make sure the Nintendo 3DS is attempting to connect to the appropriate wireless network and is receiving a strong wireless signal.
- Power cycle your router and modem.
If your connection has worked previously and this issue started occurring recently, power cycling may resolve this issue.
- Check for wireless interference.
Objects and other wireless devices in the environment can weaken your wireless signal strength and cause issues when attempt to connect online.
