How to Connect Additional GameCube Controllers to Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch

Steps for how to connect five or more GameCube Controllers to Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
Important
- If you would like to use additional GameCube Controllers on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch, a second GameCube Controller Adapter is required, as well as a self-powered USB hub.
- The USB hub needs to supply 500mA or more per USB port in order for the GameCube Controller Adapter to work properly.
- We cannot guarantee that all USB hubs will work with Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
Complete these steps
- Ensure your console has the latest system update.

How to check for the latest system update
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

- If you are using a dock with LAN port, update the firmware for the dock.

How to update Nintendo Switch 2 dock firmware
- Install the latest system update.
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Click System.
- Select Dock Update to check for updates to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock firmware and begin any updates.
- If the update stops before it can be completed, try this step again.

How to update the Nintendo Switch – OLED Model Dock firmware
- Install the latest system update.
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Click System.
- Select Update Dock, then Begin Update to begin updating the dock’s firmware.
- If the update stops before it can be completed, try this step again.

- With the console set up in TV mode, connect the self-powered USB hub to a wall outlet and to a USB port on the dock.

How to Play on Nintendo Switch 2 in TV Mode
- Connect the Nintendo Switch 2 dock to a TV or monitor.
- Detach the Joy-Con 2 controllers from the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Important
- In order to use the Joy-Con 2 as wireless controllers they will need to be paired to the console.
- Always use the Joy-Con 2 straps with the Joy-Con 2 controllers while they are detached from the console.
- Set the Nintendo Switch 2 console in its charging dock.
- Start your game or application.

How to Play on Nintendo Switch in TV Mode
- Connect the Nintendo Switch to a TV or monitor.
- To use the Joy-Con as wireless controllers they will need to be paired to the console.
- Detach the Joy-Con controllers from the Nintendo Switch console.
Important: Always use the Joy-Con strap with the Joy-Con controllers while they are detached from the console.
- Set the Nintendo Switch console in its charging dock.
- Start your game or application.

- Connect the Nintendo Switch to a TV or monitor.
- Connect both USB plugs from each GameCube Controller Adapter to available ports on the USB hub.
- Connect the GameCube Controllers to the GameCube Controller Adapter.
