How to Set Up a Local or Online Multiplayer Game (Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! / Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!)

In this article, you'll learn how to trade or battle with another player in Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee!

Note
  • Two players with a copy of Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! can battle or trade with each other online or via local wireless connection.
  • Two players can play co-operatively on one player’s save file – each using their own Poké Ball Plus, Joy-Con 2, or Joy-Con controller.

Before you start

  • A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use the online multiplayer features.
  • The option to battle or trade Pokémon becomes available after you have battled your Rival for the first time. Before then, the Communicate menu option will be grayed out.

Complete these steps

  1. What do you want to do?
    1. Start Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! from the HOME Menu.
    2. Press the X Button during gameplay to access the in-game menu.
    3. Select Communicate.
      • This option becomes available after you have battled your Rival for the first time.
    4. Select Play With Others.
    5. Select Nearby player to connect via local wireless or Faraway player to connect with another player online.
    6. Select Yes if you are prompted to save your game.
    What do you want to do?
    1. Start Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! or Pokémon: Let’s Go, Eevee! from the HOME Menu.
    2. At any point during gameplay, remove the Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con controllers from the system, or pair the Poké Ball Plus.
      • If Player 1 is using Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con: Detach both controllers from the system. Have Player 2 shake the Joy-Con (Right) to make their character appear.
      • If Player 1 is using the Poké Ball Plus: Have Player 2 push the Control Stick on a second Poké Ball Plus, then shake it to make their character appear.
    3. To change the controller for one (or both) players, do the following:
      • Press the X Button, then the Y Button to access the Options Menu.
      • Select Open Controller Settings.
      • Select the controller for Player 1 (Poké Ball Plus, Left or Right Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con) by pressing a button on the controller you want to use.
      • Select the controller for Player 2 (Poké Ball Plus, Left or Right Joy-Con 2 or Joy-Con) by pressing a button on the controller you want to use.
    4. When finished, have Player 2 shake their controller again make the character disappear.
    1. Select Link Trade on both consoles.
    2. Two rows of Pokémon pictures will appear. Have one player (Player 1) select three Pokémon pictures. These will appear at the top of Player 1’s screen. (This is the link code.)
    3. Have Player 2 select the same three Pokémon pictures. The Pokémon at the top of both screens should match.
    4. Once the code is entered on both consoles, the games will search for each other and connect together.
    5. On both consoles, choose a Pokémon to trade, and select Offer as trade.
    6. Select Trade Pokémon to complete the trade.
    1. Select Single Battle or Double Battle on both consoles.
    2. Two rows of Pokémon will appear. Have one player (Player 1) select three Pokémon pictures. These will appear at the top of Player 1’s screen. (This is the link code.)
    3. Have Player 2 select the same three Pokémon pictures. The Pokémon at the top of both screens should match.
    4. Once the code is entered on both consoles, the games will search for each other and connect together.
    5. Adjust the rules as desired and select the Pokémon to battle.
    6. When ready, select Confirm on both consoles to begin the battle!
