Can I download videos to take on-the-go?

No; however, you can always Download videos on your mobile device if you have a YouTube Premium membership.

Can I enable YouTube Premium benefits (like ad-free playback and background playback)?

If you’re logged in with an account that has YouTube Premium membership, you will gain access to ad-free videos and YouTube original content. Unfortunately, background playback and downloading videos are not supported on the Nintendo Switch.

How can I enable parental control settings to restrict use of the app?

You can enable parental controls in the Settings on your console. The YouTube app will only be accessible if the ‘Teen’ or ‘Not Restricted’ options are chosen.

How can I turn on Restricted Mode?

You can enable Restricted Mode by visiting the Settings page within the YouTube app. Restricted Mode hides videos that may contain inappropriate content flagged by users and other signals. No filter is 100% accurate, but it should help you avoid most inappropriate content.

Do I need the paid Nintendo Switch Online service to use the app?

No. As long as you have an internet connection you can use the app online.

Can I use the screen capture or video capture function on my device while using the app?

No. The YouTube app does not support the screen capture or video capture function on the device.

Can I watch purchased content on the app?

Yes! Purchased content can be found in the Library tab in the left menu. Navigate to the Library tab, then Purchases, and you will see your purchased content.

Can I purchase content to watch on the app?

No, but you can watch content you’ve previously purchased from YouTube on other devices. Simply navigate to the Library tab in the app to find your purchased content.

In which countries is YouTube available?

YouTube for Nintendo Switch is available in all countries in our region where the Nintendo Switch eShop is available.

Is YouTube TV available?

YouTube TV is not available through this app.

How does the device’s screen resolution affect YouTube? Why don’t I see the 4K quality option?

In handheld mode, the built-in display has a max resolution of 720p; in docked mode, the max resolution is 1080p.

Can I live stream my gameplay?

Currently, you can’t live stream your gameplay on YouTube directly from the Nintendo Switch.

Why is it the app for Consoles/TVs and not the mobile app?

The Nintendo Switch is intended for use in both docked and handheld mode. In order to ensure the experience works best in both modes, we launched the YouTube on TV app, like we have for other gaming consoles.

Can the YouTube app be used on Nintendo Switch 2?
