How to Join Online Multiplayer in a Nintendo Classics Game
Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model
Follow these steps to join an online multiplayer game from the Nintendo Entertainment System, Super Nintendo Entertainment System, Game Boy, Nintendo 64, SEGA Genesis, Game Boy Advance, or Nintendo GameCube classic game libraries.
Note
- Games in the Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics game library do not include multiplayer features.
- You can play online with users whom you have added as a friend on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
- During online play, this software supports voice chat through the Nintendo Switch App. You can also voice chat and video chat while playing these games using GameChat on Nintendo Switch 2.
Before you start
- An active Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to access the Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Classics, Super Nintendo Entertainment System - Nintendo Classics, and Game Boy - Nintendo Classics game libraries.
- An active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership is required to access the Nintendo 64 - Nintendo Classics, Nintendo 64 – Nintendo Classics: MATURE 17+, SEGA Genesis - Nintendo Switch Online, Game Boy Advance - Nintendo Classics, Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics, and Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics game libraries. The Nintendo GameCube - Nintendo Classics library is exclusively playable on Nintendo Switch 2.
Complete these steps
- Access the Nintendo Classics software you want to play.
- From the menu on the left, select Play Online, then select a player to join from the list on the right.
- If a passcode was set up for the game, you will need to enter it.
- Once you've joined the game, a notification will briefly appear on the screen.
Additional information
The initiator of the online game will have control over the menus and the game selection. In some libraries, you can swap who controls Player 1 during gameplay from the Suspend Menu.
