How to Transfer a Supervised Account to a Different Family Group

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Steps to move a supervised Nintendo Account from one family group to another.

Before you start

To transfer a supervised Nintendo Account, the admin of the family group the supervised account is being transferred to must meet the following requirements:

  • The person receiving the transferred account must be the existing admin for their family group (or not yet part of a family group).
  • The admin must be 18+ years old. If they are too young, they will need to transfer the admin role to a family group member aged 18+.
  • The Nintendo Account country for the new admin must be the same country as the supervised account.
  • The new family group must have less than 8 members. If there are already 8 members in the family group, you will need to remove members before transferring the supervised account.
  • For supervised accounts whose age makes them subject to verifiable parental consent laws in their country or region, the new admin must provide a credit card as proof of their age, if they have not previously done so. The transferred child account(s) will not be usable until this is completed.
    • Why am I prompted to enter a credit card to create a Nintendo Account for my child?

In accordance with the Child Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) in the United States and Law 25 in Quebec, Canada, a parent or guardian must provide consent to set up a Nintendo Account for children under certain ages in each region. To assure that a parent or guardian sets up the account, they will need to go through the Verifiable Parental Consent process while setting up the Nintendo Account for the child.

      • A one-time fee of $0.50 is charged to verify that a parent or guardian has provided consent. This one-time payment is a commonly used and accepted parental control method required so that parents have the chance to see the payment on their credit card statement, and to alert Nintendo if consent was improperly provided.
      • The fee is charged on the Nintendo Account website when the Nintendo Account is set up.
      • Credit card information is not stored on the system, and cannot be used to make additional purchases through the system.
      • A fee is not needed to set up subsequent child accounts through the parent/guardian’s Nintendo Account. Once the first child account has been set up, you can add additional child accounts for no additional fee.

  • 2. Within 24 hours, accept the transfer with the new admin account

The new admin will need to complete the following steps within 24 hours. If it has been longer than 24 hours, the original admin can repeat the entire process to resend the verification email.

    2. Select Change account and enter your password when prompted.
    3. Review the Nintendo Account User Agreement and check the box to agree to it.

      • Supervised account appears as "Unusable"
        1. If the supervised account appears as "Unusable" in the family group, the admin needs to provide a credit card number for a one-time $.50 COPPA charge (U.S. only).
        2. Click Reactivate next to the supervised account and follow the onscreen instructions to enter credit card information.
        3. Once this is done, the "Unusable" flag will disappear and the supervised account can be used as normal.
