How to Replace the Battery in the Nintendo DSi and Nintendo DSi XL

In this article, you'll learn how to replace the battery.

Do not use any battery other than the rechargeable battery made by Nintendo.

Complete these steps

Press and hold the Power/Reset button (at least .5 second) until the power shuts off.
Make sure the AC Adapter is unplugged from the Nintendo DSi or Nintendo DSi XL.

Loosen the two cross-head (+) screws on the battery cover with a screwdriver, and remove the battery cover.

Important: To avoid damage to the screw or threads, use a screwdriver that is appropriate for the screw.
Remove the battery pack by pulling up on the end of the battery that doesn't have the + and - symbols.
Orient the new battery so the + and - symbols line up correctly and then carefully insert the battery completely into the battery compartment.
Replace the battery cover, and tighten the two screws, being careful not to over tighten.

Important: Always be sure to replace the battery cover and tighten the screws before resuming use.
