Image on the TV Is in Black and White or Does Not Appear (Blank Screen)

The information in this article can help you when:

  • The console powers on and shows a black and white image on the television screen.
  • The console powers on and there is no image on the television screen.

What to do

  • Unplug the Wii from the AC adapter and the AC adapter from the outlet. Wait a few seconds and plug them back in, turn the Wii on, and see if the issue is resolved.
  • Turn the TV off and back on.
  1. Are the Standard AV Cables (packaged with the system) or the Component Cables (sold separately) being used?
    1. Ensure the yellow, red, and white cables are connected to the correct corresponding inputs on the TV.
    2. Try another set of inputs on the TV, or connecting the Wii console up to another TV.
    3. If the TV does not have the yellow, red and white inputs, it will most likely have component inputs which allow standard AV cable use. Try these AV connection steps.
    4. Check the TV for alternate AV input settings, such as HD vs Video. Switch these to Video or non-HD and see if the issue continues.
