How to Check Functionality of the Sensor Bar (Wii)
Wii & Wii mini
In this article, you'll learn how to check the functionality of the Sensor Bar.
Note
- There are five infrared lights on the front of each side of the Sensor Bar. While invisible to the naked eye, they can be seen if viewed through an LCD screen, such as those found on Nintendo DSi systems, camera phones, and digital cameras.
- Note that camera phones or digital cameras with infrared filtering won't work. Try using the front-facing camera if you find your phone uses infrared filtering.
Complete these steps
- Connect the Sensor Bar to the Wii and turn the power on.
- Point the camera at the Sensor Bar so that it is displayed in the LCD of the camera.
- Five infrared lights should appear on both sides of the Sensor Bar. While the position/angle of the camera may need to be adjusted slightly, the lights are fairly easy to see in the LCD display. If the lights are visible, the Sensor Bar is working.

Situation not resolved
If the lights are not visible, the Sensor Bar will need to be replaced. You may find our information on accessory replacement options helpful.
