The Battery Charge Indicator or Percentage Displays Incorrectly on Nintendo Switch
What to do when you are able to continue using your Nintendo Switch console for a few hours even though the battery charge indicator displays the battery is almost depleted.
Important: It will be necessary to repeat this process several times. The battery charge display will not be fixed immediately after performing the steps below only once.
Complete these steps
- Ensure the console has the latest system update.

- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

- Set Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never.

How to set Auto-Sleep mode settings to Never
- From the HOME Menu select System Settings.

- Scroll down the options on the left and select Sleep Mode.
The following settings can be configured:
- Auto-Sleep (Playing on Console Screen)
While in Handheld mode or Tabletop mode the console will enter sleep mode after a set period of inactivity. This time can be set to 1, 3, 5, 10, or 30 minutes. To disable Auto-Sleep while using the console screen, select Never.
- Auto-Sleep (Connected to TV)
While in TV Mode the console will enter sleep mode after a set period of inactivity. This time can be set to 1, 2, 3, 6, or 12 hours. To disable Auto-Sleep while using the console in TV mode, select Never.
- Auto-Sleep (Playing on Console Screen)

- From the HOME Menu select System Settings.

- Connect the AC adapter directly to the console until the battery is 100% fully charged or until the console has been charging for three hours.
- Once the battery is fully charged (or the console has been charging for three hours), leave the console alone and connected to the AC adapter for an additional hour.
- Afterward, disconnect the AC adapter and allow the console to display the HOME Menu for approximately three to four hours.
- The remaining battery life must be depleted as much as possible.
- Once the battery charge is almost depleted, power off the console and leave it alone for at least 30 minutes.

- Press and hold the POWER Button for at least three seconds.
- Select Power Options.
- Select Turn Off.

- Repeat steps 3 through 6 several times.
- The battery charge indicator will improve gradually by repeating this process several times.
Situation not resolved
If the issue persists, and there is no gradual improvement after trying these steps multiple times, the Nintendo Switch console may need to be serviced.
