How to Update The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (Wii U)

In this article, you'll learn how to update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild for Wii U.

On January 31, 2018, a new software update for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild became available for download. Please take a moment to download and install this update while your Wii U console is connected to the Internet.

Note
  • This update must be applied in order to use the game's Internet features.
  • Save data will still be available for use after downloading the update.
  • If the system's Standby Functions are enabled, the update will download and install automatically.

Complete these steps

  1. Connect the Wii U console to the Internet.
  2. Return to the Wii U Menu and launch the game.
  3. The update will be downloaded and installed automatically.
    • Once the update is installed, the newest version number will be displayed on the title screen.
    • If a message appears that says the Wii U needs a system update, follow these steps.

  • Expansion Pass: DLC Pack 1 The Master Trials is now available. If you have already pre-purchased this content, you can now play it by updating both the DLC and the software. You can update your purchased DLC through Nintendo eShop.

Ver. 1.2.0 (Released May 1, 2017)

  • Various fixes to improve the gameplay experience.
  • A feature has been added that allows you to choose from nine language options for in-game voices. You can access this setting from the Options menu on the title screen.
    • Languages Available:

      • Italian
      • Russian
    • If you try to change this setting by selecting Voice Language in the Options menu once the update data has downloaded, you will see a button that will take you to Nintendo eShop. Please go to Nintendo eShop and download the free DLC titled The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild-Option to Change Voice Language in order to make use of this feature.
