What Is Standby Connection?

Note: As of June 27th, 2013, Nintendo discontinued data exchange between Wii friends using WiiConnect24. This includes features delivered via Standby Connection, such as Wii message exchanges via Wii Message Board, use of the Wii Number, Mii exchanges via Mii Channel, and exchanges of messages or data in some game titles.
Turning Standby Connection on allowed the Wii Console to automatically receive WiiConnect24 messages and information even when the console was not in active use.
