Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Steps for situations when the control sticks on the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller don't work as expected.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch system
  • Your Nintendo Switch Pro Controller

What to do

  1. Check that your console has the latest system update..
  2. Check that the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller has power and that it is paired to the console.
  3. Calibrate the control sticks on the Pro Controller.
    • How to calibrate the control sticks
      1. From the HOME Menu select System Settings, then scroll down the menu on the left-hand side and select Controllers and Sensors.
        The Controllers and Sensors screen
      2. Select Calibrate Control Sticks then fully tilt the control stick in any single direction for a few seconds on the controller you want to calibrate.
      3. Follow the on-screen prompts to verify the control stick functionality.
        The Calibrate Control Sticks screen
      4. If the calibration is complete but is not immediately reflected when testing the control sticks, do the following:
        • Set the console to sleep mode, then press the POWER Button to "wake it up" again.
        • Reset the Joy-ConThe Diagram showing the side of the Joy-Con controller or Pro ControllerThe Diagram showing the back of the Pro Controller by pressing the SYNC Button once, then press any other button to power it on again.
    • Calibration successful, but the issue persists in a specific game

It is possible that the Pro Controller is not compatible with that software. Check the software manual or game packaging.

If the software is compatible with the Pro Controller, try the following:

      • Decrease the distance between the Pro Controller and the console.
      • To minimize wireless interference, ensure that the console is not placed behind a TV, under a metal object, or within three to four feet of other wireless devices, such as wireless speakers, cordless phones, etc.
      • If the issue persists, try testing the Pro Controller using a different compatible game or software.
  4. Try using the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller as a wired controller.
