Error Code: 2016-0247

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

The information in this article can help you when:

  • An error code is received when trying to download software to the microSD / microSD Express card on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
  • It is possible that the microSD / microSD Express card worked on the console before, but now an error code is displayed.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console
  • An Internet connection
  • One or more microSD / microSD Express cards

Complete these steps

  1. Power off the console.
  2. Remove the microSD / microSD Express card from the console.
  3. Make sure the microSD / microSD Express card you are using is compatible with your console.

    Important: If there is more than a 1GB difference between what is listed on the card’s label or packaging and the total card capacity listed in the console, contact the retailer for assistance.

  4. Reinsert the microSD / microSD Express card into your console.
  5. Power the console back on.
  6. Perform a system update.
  7. If the microSD / microSD Express card cannot be read on your console, try the following:
    • Format the card.

        Important
        • Once formatted, the information on the microSD Express card cannot be recovered. If screenshots or videos are stored on the microSD Express card, be sure to first back up the information on a computer.
        • If downloadable software was saved to the microSD Express card, it can be redownloaded using the same Nintendo Account it was purchased with.
        • Save data is stored on the console’s system memory, so it will not be lost in this process.
        1. From the HOME Menu, select System SettingsThe System Settings icon highlighted on the HOME Menu on Nintendo Switch 2.
        2. Scroll down the options on the left and select System.
        3. Scroll down the options on the right-hand side and select Formatting Options.
          • If prompted, enter your Parental Controls PIN.
        4. Select Format microSD Card, then Continue.
          • The following message will be displayed, “All data on the microSD card will be deleted. Data cannot be restored once it is deleted. Continue?”
        5. To continue, select Format. The console will then restart.

    • Use a different microSD / microSD Express card, if possible.
    • Power off the console and remove the card. Try downloading the software directly to the system memory.

Situation not resolved

If the error persists with multiple microSD / microSD Express cards, then the console will need to be sent in for service.

  • For testing purposes, be sure to include one or more of the problematic microSD / microSD Express cards that were being used with the console.

Additional information

If a microSD / microSD Express card is inserted on the console, the save location will default to the microSD card when downloading or redownloading software.
