Distorted Audio or Static Noise on Nintendo Switch Console Speakers

Steps for when static noise, buzzing, or a crackling sound can be heard coming from one or both of the Nintendo Switch speakers while using the console in handheld mode or TV mode.
Before you start
You will need:
- Your Nintendo Switch console
What to do
- Confirm your console has the latest system update.

How to check for the latest system update
- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

How to check for the latest system update
- With the console undocked, unplug any headphones from the console.
- If the setting Mute when Headphones are Disconnected is turned on, by unplugging a headphone set, the sound on the console speakers will be muted until the volume buttons are pressed, or until this setting is manually turned off.

How to manually turn off 'Mute when Headphones are Disconnected'
- Select System Settings from the HOME Menu.
- Select System.
- Select Mute when Headphones are Disconnected to toggle the setting off.
- Try moving the console away from wireless devices, such as cordless phones, microwaves, etc.
- Wireless interference can, in rare cases, cause sound problems.
Situation not resolved
If the issue persists, the Nintendo Switch console will need to be sent in for service.
