Error Message: There is No Mii Registered to This amiibo

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Use this article when:

  • You are unable to copy a Mii from an amiibo on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch.
  • An error message is displayed: "There is No Mii Registered to This amiibo."

Note: If a Mii character was already created and registered to the amiibo, it is possible that the Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console was unable to read the amiibo data.

What to do

  1. Create a new Mii character from scratch or from a look-alike on the console.
    • How to create a Mii from scratch on Nintendo Switch 2
      1. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings. The System Settings icon highlighted on the HOME Menu on Nintendo Switch 2
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select Mii, then Create/Edit a Mii.
      3. Select Create New MiiCreate New Mii option highlighted on the Mii Option screen on Nintendo Switch 2, then Start from Scratch.
      4. Select the style A Mii style highlighted on the Start from Scratch screen for your Mii character.
      5. Use the left control stick or directional buttons to navigate through the different features for your Mii character, such as face, eyebrows, nose, facial hair, etc. Press the A Button to select a feature and pick the option you want. You can use the right control stick to view your Mii from different angles. The Face option highlighted while editing a Mii's features
      6. Once you're satisfied, use the on-screen keyboard to enter a nickname for your Mii, then select OK or press the + Button.
        • Nicknames can be up to 10 characters long.
      7. When you are finished creating your Mii, select Done.
    • How to create a Mii from scratch on Nintendo Switch
      1. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings.System Settings highlighted on the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu screen.
      2. Scroll down the options on the left and select Mii, then Create/Edit a Mii.
      3. Select Create New MiiCreate New Mii option highlighted on the Mii Option screen. and choose from one of the available options.
      4. Select the genderMii Female Gender highlighted on the Start from Scratch screen for your Mii character.
      5. Use the left control stick or the D-pad on the left Joy-Con to navigate through the different physical features for your Mii character, such as face, eyebrows, nose, facial hair, etc. Use the right Joy-Con to select an option.The Face option highlighted on the physcial feature screen.
      6. Use the on-screen keyboard to enter a nickname for your Mii, then select OK or press the + Button on the right Joy-Con.
        • Nicknames can be up to 10 characters long.
      7. When you are finished creating your Mii, press Done.
  2. Register the new Mii character to the amiibo.
    • How to Register an amiibo on Nintendo Switch 2
      1. Ensure your system has the latest system menu version.
      2. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings
      3. Scroll down the menu on the left-hand side and select amiibo.
      4. Select Enter Owner and Nickname.
      5. Hold an amiibo figure to the NFC touchpoint.
        • On Nintendo Switch 2, this is located over the control stick on the Right Joy-Con 2An amiibo figure being touched to the NFC touch point of the Joy-Con 2 (R) Right Stick.
        • On the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller, this is located over the Nintendo Switch 2 logo at the top-center of the controllerAn amiibo figure being touched to the NFC touch point of the Nintendo Switch 2 Pro Controller.
      6. Select an owner for the amiibo from the existing users on the console.
        • You’ll need a Mii to set an owner for the amiibo. If you do not already have one, follow the on-screen steps to create a Mii for the owner of the amiibo to use.
        • If the amiibo already has a registered owner and nickname, this will be displayed on the screen.
      7. Enter a nickname for your amiibo, then select OK.
        • The nickname can be up to 10 characters long and can include up to five numbers.
      8. Select OK, then hold the amiibo figure steady on the NFC touchpoint until the registration is complete.
    • How to Register an amiibo on Nintendo Switch
      1. Ensure your system has the latest system menu version.
      2. From the HOME Menu, select System Settings, then scroll down the menu on the left-hand side and select amiibo.
      3. Select Register Owner and Nickname.
      4. Hold an amiibo figure to the NFC touchpoint.
        • On the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch – OLED Model consoles, this is located over the control stick on the Right Joy-Con.
        • On Nintendo Switch Lite, this is located over the right control stick.
        • On the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller, this is located over the Nintendo Switch logo at the top-center of the controller.

          Important: If Pro Controller Wired Communication is being used while Nintendo Switch is in TV mode, the NFC touchpoint on the controller will be disabled.

      5. Select an owner for the amiibo from the existing users on the console, or create a new user by selecting Create Mii.
        • If the amiibo already has a registered owner and nickname, this will be displayed on the screen.
      6. Enter a nickname for your amiibo, then select OK.
        • The nickname can be up to 10 characters long and can include up to five numbers.
      7. Select OK, then hold the amiibo figure steady on the NFC touchpoint until the registration is complete.
