Nintendo Switch Pro Controller Power Issues

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

The information in this article can help you when the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller does not power on, cannot be charged, or the battery charge does not last very long.

Note
  • The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller takes approximately 6 hours to fully charge.
  • When fully charged, the battery duration for the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller can last approximately 40 hours. This can be shorter depending on the software application and functions being used.

Before you start

You will need:

  • Your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console
  • Your Nintendo Switch Pro Controller
  • Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model No. HAC-002)

What to do

  1. Which system are you using?
    1. Reset the AC adapter by leaving it unplugged from both ends for at least 30 seconds.
      • While performing this step, verify you are using the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model No. HAC-002)The Nintendo Switch AC Adapter and check for any cuts, kinks, frayed cables, etc.
      • If any damage is found, or if a different charger is being used, replacing it with the correct accessory may resolve the problem.

        You can purchase the Nintendo Switch AC adapter from Nintendo Store.

    2. Connect the Nintendo Switch AC adapter directly to the Pro Controller and to a wall outletNintendo Switch Pro Controller connected to the Nintendo Switch AC Adapter that is connected to a wall outlet.
      • While charging, the recharge LEDThe Diagram showing the back of the Pro Controller on the Pro Controller will remain lit. (Once the battery charge is complete, the recharge LED will power off.)
    Did the recharge LED on the Pro Controller power on?
    1. Reset the AC adapter by leaving it unplugged from both ends for at least 30 seconds.
      • While performing this step, verify you are using the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (model No. HAC-002)The Nintendo Switch AC Adapter and check for any cuts, kinks, frayed cables, etc.

    Did the recharge LED on the Pro Controller power on?
  2. Power on the Nintendo Switch 2 console and press any button on the Pro Controller.

    If the player LEDs turn on momentarily and shut off, the Pro Controller will need to be paired.

    • How to pair the Pro Controller to Nintendo Switch 2

      The Pro Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the following ways:

      USB connection pairing
      1. Place the Nintendo Switch 2 console in the dock with LAN port.
      2. Connect the Pro Controller to the dock with LAN port using the included USB cable (model No. HAC-010)Nintendo Switch Pro Controller being connected to the Nintendo Switch 2 Dock.

      Button pairing or wireless pairing
      1. From the HOME Menu, select ControllersControlesManettesControles, then Change Grip and OrderChange Grip and Order screen on Nintendo Switch 2.
      2. While on the "Change Grip and Order" screen, press and hold down the SYNC ButtonDiagram of the back of the Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for at least one second on the Pro Controller you wish to pair.

    If the recharge LED remains lit while the AC adapter is plugged in, but the player LEDs do not turn on, allow the Pro Controller to charge for at least 15 to 30 minutes. Then pair it to the console.

    Did this resolve your issue?

    If the recharge LED does not turn on at all, test the AC adapter by connecting it directly to the consoleThe Nintendo Switch AC Adapter being inserted into both an electrical outlet and the USB connector on the bottom of the console.

    Is the AC adapter working?

    Power on the Nintendo Switch console and press any button on the Pro Controller.

    If the player LEDs turn on momentarily and shut off, the Pro Controller will need to be paired.

    • How to pair the Pro Controller to Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch – OLED Model

      The Pro Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch console in the following ways:

      USB connection pairing
      1. Place the Nintendo Switch console in the dock.
      2. Connect the Pro Controller to the dock with the included USB cable (model No. HAC-010) Nintendo Switch Pro Controller being connected to the Nintendo Switch Dock.
      Button pairing or wireless pairing
      1. From the HOME Menu, select Controllers.
      2. Select Change Grip and Order.
      3. While the following screen is displayed, press and hold down the SYNC Button for at least one second on the Pro Controller you wish to pair.

    • How to pair the Pro Controller to Nintendo Switch Lite

      The Pro Controller can be paired to Nintendo Switch Lite in the following ways:

      Button pairing or wireless pairing
      1. From the HOME Menu, select Controllers.
      2. Select Change Grip and Order.
      3. While the following screen is displayed, press and hold down the SYNC Button for at least one second on the Pro Controller you wish to pair.

      USB connection pairing

      Place Nintendo Switch Lite on the Dual USB PlayStand (or other licensed accessory), then connect to it the Pro Controller using the USB charging cable (model No. HAC-010).

    If the recharge LED remains lit while the AC adapter is plugged in, but the player LEDs do not turn on, allow the Pro Controller to charge for at least 15 to 30 minutes. Then pair it to the system.

    Did this resolve your issue?

    Is the AC adapter working?

    • How to pair the Pro Controller to Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch – OLED Model

      The Pro Controller can be paired to the Nintendo Switch console in the following ways:

      1. Place the Nintendo Switch console in the dock.
      2. Connect the Pro Controller to the dock with the included USB cable (model No. HAC-010) Nintendo Switch Pro Controller being connected to the Nintendo Switch Dock.

    • The battery charge on the Pro Controller does not last very long even after charging for at least 6 hours.

    • The Nintendo Switch 2 console does not need to be docked in order to charge the Pro Controller.
