Error Code: 2005-0003
Steps for when you can't download software on Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch and you get the error code 2005-0003.
Important: If you are using a microSD or microSD Express card in your console, do not remove it until you have confirmed all downloads have completed.
Before you start
You will need:
- Your Nintendo Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console
- An Internet connection
What to do
- Check that your console has the latest system update.

- Select System Settings on the HOME Menu.
- Scroll down to the bottom of the System Settings menu and select System.
- Select System Update to start the system update process.
- The system will check to see if an update is available.

How to redownload a game or DLC
To redownload a digital game or DLC, load the virtual game card:
- Select

- Select your user.
- If prompted, enter your user verification PIN or enter your Nintendo Account password.
- Select the item you want to redownload from the list of your virtual game cards.

- The game (and any DLC for that game you have purchased) will begin downloading. You can check the download status on the HOME Menu.

How to remove a microSD card
- With the console powered off, locate the microSD card slot:
- Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch: Gently swing the stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch Lite: Gently open the microSD card slot cover.
- Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand open to show the microSD card slot.
- Gently push down on the top of the microSD card until you hear a click, then slide it out of the microSD card slot.

- With the console powered off, locate the microSD card slot:
- Make sure the card you are using is compatible with your console.

microSD cards compatible with Nintendo Switch 2 and Nintendo Switch
The following types of microSD cards are supported on Nintendo Switch 2:
- microSD Express (up to 2TB)
The following types of microSD cards are supported on Nintendo Switch:
- microSD (up to 2 GB)
- microSDHC (4 GB - 32 GB)
- microSDXC (64 GB - 2 TB)
Important: If there is more than a 1GB difference between what is listed on the card’s label or packaging and the total card capacity listed in the system, contact the retailer for assistance.
- Reinsert the card and try redownloading the software.

How to insert a microSD card
- Press and hold the POWER button on the console for at least three seconds.
- Select Power Options, then Turn Off.
- Locate the microSD card slot:
- Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand
open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch – OLED Model: Gently swing the adjustable stand
open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch: Gently swing the stand
open to show the microSD card slot.
- Nintendo Switch Lite: Gently open the microSD card slot cover

- Nintendo Switch 2: Gently swing the adjustable stand
- Check that the microSD card is properly positioned with the label facing away from the console.
- Insert the microSD card into the slot and gently push down until it clicks into place.

- Power off the console again.
- Replace the card with a different compatible card and try redownloading the software.

Able to download the software to the new microSD/microSD Express card
If your download works, there may be an issue with your original microSD/microSD Express card. You may need to format or replace your original card.
- Format the microSD/microSD Express card, then try redownloading the software.

How to format a microSD Express card
Important
- Once formatted, the information on the microSD Express card cannot be recovered. If screenshots or videos are stored on the microSD Express card, be sure to first back up the information on a computer.
- If downloadable software was saved to the microSD Express card, it can be redownloaded using the same Nintendo Account it was purchased with.
- Save data is stored on the console’s system memory, so it will not be lost in this process.
- From the HOME Menu, select System Settings

- Scroll down the options on the right-hand side and select Formatting Options.
- If prompted, enter your Parental Controls PIN.
- Select Format microSD Card, then Continue.
- The following message will be displayed, “All data on the microSD card will be deleted. Data cannot be restored once it is deleted. Continue?”
- To continue, select Format. The console will then restart.

Able to download the software to the system memory
If your download works, there may be an issue with your original microSD/microSD Express card. You may need to format or replace your original card.
Situation not resolved
If the error persists with multiple compatible microSD/microSD Express cards when downloading to the system memory, or if you are not able to test a second compatible card, the console will need to be serviced.
Be sure to include one or two of the problematic cards with the service request.
