Forgot Nintendo Network ID Password

The information in this article can help you with resetting a forgotten password for a Nintendo Network ID.

Note
  • If you can't remember your Nintendo Network ID (username), learn more about locating your Nintendo Network ID.
  • Temporary passwords expire after 24 hours.
  • If you no longer have access to the system the NNID is associated to (or if you have formatted that system), select Nintendo Account (PC) below and follow the steps to reset your password.

What to do

  1. You can request a temporary password from the Wii U, Nintendo 3DS or on your PC or smartphone browser.

    Where are you trying to sign in with your Nintendo Network ID?
    1. Select the Mii on the User Select screen.
    2. When prompted for your password, select I Forgot.
    3. Select Send. An e-mail with a temporary password will be sent to the e-mail address associated to your Nintendo Network ID.
      • If you have not confirmed your e-mail address, you will be prompted to do that before a temporary password can be sent. Select Resend E-Mail to resend the verification e-mail, then follow the instructions in the e-mail to confirm. You will then be able to request the temporary password.
    4. Select OK to return to the password entry screen.
    5. Once the e-mail arrives, return to the Wii U and enter the temporary password that you received. Select OK to sign in.
    6. Once you have signed in, access the User Settings to update the password associated to your account.

    If you do not remember or have access to the e-mail address associated to your NNID, we will need to update your e-mail address before you can use the Forgot Password feature. If you need to have the e-mail address updated, please contact us for support.

    1. Access the Nintendo Network ID Settings.
    2. When prompted to enter your password, select I Forgot.
    3. Select Yes. An e-mail with a temporary password will be sent to the e-mail address associated to your Nintendo Network ID.
    4. Once the e-mail arrives, access the Nintendo Network ID Settings on the Nintendo 3DS.
    5. Select Sign In to enter a password.
    6. Enter the temporary password you received, then select Confirm to sign in.
    7. Once you have signed in, select Password Settings.
    8. Select Change Password to update the password on your Nintendo Network account.

    If you do not remember or have access to the e-mail address associated to your NNID, we will need to update your e-mail address before you can use the Forgot Password feature. If you need to have the e-mail address updated, please contact us for support.

    1. Visit the Forgot Password website.
    2. Enter your Nintendo Network ID and the E-Mail Address associated your account into the appropriate fields.
      • If you have not confirmed your e-mail address, you will be prompted to do that before a temporary password can be sent. Use a Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family system to verify your e-mail address. You will then be able to request the temporary password.
    3. Select Send. An e-mail with a temporary password will be sent to the e-mail address associated to your Nintendo Network account.
    4. Once the e-mail arrives, return to your Wii U or Nintendo 3DS family system and use the temporary password to sign in to your account.
    5. Once you have signed in, you can update the password through the Nintendo Network ID Settings on your Wii U or Nintendo 3DS.
