How to Charge the Joy-Con Controllers

Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch Lite, Nintendo Switch - OLED Model

Information on how to charge Joy-Con controllers.

What to do

Follow the path below based on the console you're using.

  • Nintendo Switch 2
    Important
    • This information is about charging the Joy-Con controllers included with Nintendo Switch hardware. You may also find our information on How to Charge the Joy-Con 2 Controllers (included with Nintendo Switch 2) helpful.
    • While using Nintendo Switch Lite, either the Joy-Con Charging Grip (sold separately) or the Joy-Con Charging Stand (sold separately) are required to charge the Joy-Con.
    While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    2. Connect the Joy-Con Charging Grip to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock using the USB cable that was included with the Charging Grip, or connect it directly to the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (NGN-01). Image of a Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (MOD. NGN-01) and USB-C Cable
      • Note that the Nintendo Switch 2 needs to be docked, with power connected to the dock, for the USB ports on the dock to work.

    While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Stand.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Stand.
    2. Connect the Joy-Con Charging Stand to the Nintendo Switch 2 dock using the USB cable that was included with the Charging Stand, or connect it directly to the Nintendo Switch 2 AC adapter (NGN-01).
      • Note that the Nintendo Switch 2 needs to be docked, with power connected to the dock, for the USB ports on the dock to work.
  • Nintendo Switch – OLED Model

    The Joy-Con can be charged in the following ways with Nintendo Switch – OLED Model:

    While attached to the Nintendo Switch console.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Nintendo Switch console and power it on.
      • In order for the Joy-Con to charge while attached to the Nintendo Switch console, the console must be connected to the AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode.

    While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    2. Connect the Joy-Con Charging Grip to the Nintendo Switch dock with LAN port using the USB cable that was included with the Charging Grip, or connect it directly to the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (HAC-002).     1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Stand.

  • Nintendo Switch

    The Joy-Con can be charged in the following ways with Nintendo Switch:

    While attached to the Nintendo Switch console.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Nintendo Switch console and power it on.
      • In order for the Joy-Con to charge while attached to the Nintendo Switch console, the console must be connected to the AC adapter and powered on or in Sleep Mode.

    While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    2. Connect the Joy-Con Charging Grip to the Nintendo Switch dock using the USB cable that was included with the Charging Grip, or connect it directly to the Nintendo Switch AC adapter (HAC-002).     While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Stand.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Stand.

  • Nintendo Switch Lite
    Important

    While using Nintendo Switch Lite, either the Joy-Con Charging Grip (sold separately) or the Joy-Con Charging Stand (sold separately) are required to charge the Joy-Con.

    While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.
    1. Attach the Joy-Con to the Joy-Con Charging Grip.

    While attached to the Joy-Con Charging Stand.

Additional information

  • It takes approximately 3.5 hours to fully charge the Joy-Con controllers.
  • The Joy-Con Charging Grip (model No. HAC-012) is not included in any Nintendo Switch bundle. This product is sold separately.
