Error Message: This Code Has Already Been Used
Steps for when you cannot redeem a download code and you receive the message "This Code Has Already Been Used" or "This download code has already been used."
Before you start
You will need:
- Your Nintendo Switch 2 or Nintendo Switch console
- The download code that is receiving the error message
- An Internet connection
What to do
- Verify that you are entering the correct download code.
- The download code is a 16-digit code that is printed on the receipt you received when you made the purchase.
- If the download code was included in a hardware bundle, it will be located on an insert included with the bundle.
- Try redeeming the code again, using different characters if you aren’t sure what some are (for example, a 0 may look like an 8, a 5 may look like a 2, etc).

How to redeem a code for software or downloadable content on Nintendo eShop
- Select Nintendo eShop on the HOME Menu.
- Select the account you want to use.
- Select Enter Code on the left side of the screen.
- Enter the 16-character download code.
- Select OK to confirm.
- The game icon will appear on the HOME menu, with a download status bar.

How to redeem a code for software or downloadable content on Nintendo eShop
- Check your previously downloaded titles as Virtual Game Cards from the HOME Menu. If the download code was already redeemed on your system, you can redownload the game without re-entering the code.

- If there are multiple user accounts on your console, select the account with the history you want to view.
- Confirm your identity by re-entering your password or entering a PIN, if you are prompted to do so.
- All of the digital content you have purchased, including DLC, will appear in the various sections of the menu.
- Only software purchased with your Nintendo Account will appear. Software purchased by other Nintendo Accounts on the console will not appear.

How to redownload a game or DLC
To redownload a digital game or DLC, load the virtual game card:

- Select your user.
- If prompted, enter your user verification PIN or enter your Nintendo Account password.
- Select the item you want to redownload from the list of your virtual game cards.

- The game (and any DLC for that game you have purchased) will begin downloading. You can check the download status on the HOME Menu.
