Surround Sound Is Not Working

The information in this article can help you when after connecting the Wii U to a surround sound system, it does not work.

Not all games support surround sound.
While the Wii U supports surround sound, if the system is being used in an application/game that does not support six-channel linear PCM audio output, the system should default to stereo sound.
The Wii U uses six-channel linear PCM audio output. If your receiver does not support six-channel linear PCM audio output, you will not be able to use surround sound in Wii U mode.
With the latest system update, the Wii U now also supports Dolby Pro Logic II. This is only supported in Wii Mode.

What to do

If you are using a receiver, switch, or other device, see if sound will continue after switching applications (such as Mario Kart 8 to Netflix, or Netflix to the Wii U Menu). If this solves your issue, then please use it in the future and be sure to keep your system up to date.
Ensure that the Wii U is correctly configured to use surround sound.
If your TV uses Deep Color, ensure that it is turned off.
Ensure that the Wii U is correctly connected to your receiver, and that the receiver is set to the correct input channel. If you must manually configure your receiver to use six-channel linear PCM, do so and launch the game again.
- If you are in Wii Mode, make sure your receiver is set to Dolby Pro Logic II.

Bypass the receiver and connect the Wii U directly to your television.
Change the Wii U's sound settings back to stereo.
