System Update Progress Appears Stuck or Frozen

The information in this article can help you when the system update has stopped or appears stuck.
Note
- Depending on the speed of the Internet connection and the file size of the update, it could take an hour or more to download and install. Please be patient.
- During the update, the progress bar displayed on the Wii U GamePad may take a while to start moving. This is normal.
Possible solutions
If the system update's progress bar has not moved for an extended amount of time, you may be able to stop the download process by using the following steps to disrupt the Wii U console's Internet connection:
- Unplug the power from the wireless router or modem being used.
- After waiting a moment, the Wii U console will recognize that it has lost its Internet connection, and you will be prompted with an error code.
- Select OK to confirm and exit the system update process.
- Once you have returned to the Wii U Menu, you can restart the system update, returning to when the update left off.
