How to Connect a Wii U to the Internet Using Wi-Fi Protected Setup

Wii U

In this article, you'll learn how to connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi Protected Setup.

Note
  • Certain routers support the Wi-Fi Protected Setup function, which allows you to quickly and easily configure the wireless devices you wish to connect to your router.
  • To determine if your router supports this feature, look for the Wi-Fi Protected Setup logo (two arrows). It usually appears on a button at the back or bottom of the router. Alternatively, you may also contact your router manufacturer or refer to the instruction manual of your access point for further information.

Complete these steps

  1. Locate the WPS button on the router to ensure the router supports this feature (you will also need to push this button during a later step).
    • If you are unable to find this, contact your router manufacturer or refer to the instruction manual of your access point for further information
  2. From the Wii U Menu, select System Settings.
  3. Using the Left Stick, select the Internet icon and press the A Button.
Internet Icon selected within the Wii U System Settings menu
  4. Select Connect to the Internet.
  5. Select Connection Types or press the Y Button.
  6. Select Wi-Fi Protected Setup.
  7. Select Push-Button Configuration.
  8. On the wireless access point, press and hold the WPS button until the LED blinks.
  9. A Setup Complete screen will appear on the Wii U if this process was successful. Select OK to begin a connection test.
    • It is possible to take up to 2 minutes for the Push-Button Configuration setup to complete.
  10. The Wii U will now perform a connection test.
    • If the connection test fails, select OK to receive an error code and detailed information on why the connection test failed.
    • Search our knowledge base for more information on how to resolve the error code.

  11. If the connection test is successful, select OK to continue.
  12. If you have not previously updated your Wii U console, you may be asked to perform a system update. Select Update to perform the system update, or select Cancel to skip this process.
    • We recommend performing the system update as this will ensure you have access to recently released applications and services.
