How to Use Surround Sound on the Wii U

In this article, you'll learn how to connect the Wii U console to support surround sound.
Note
- Not all games support surround sound.
- While the Wii U supports surround sound, if the system is being used in an application/game that does not support surround sound, the system will default to stereo sound.
- The Wii U uses six-channel linear PCM audio output.
- With a recent system update, support for Dolby Pro Logic II was added. Use of this format is only available in Wii Mode.
Complete these steps
- Connect the Wii U console to an AV Amplifier using a high-speed HDMI cable.
- Set the Wii U TV Audio Settings to Surround.
- Adjust the AV Amplifer to a setting that supports six-channel linear PCM (it may default to the correct setting depending on the device). For more information, consult the AV Amplifier manual/manufacturer.
- If your AV Amplifier does not support the use of six-channel linear PCM audio output, then you will not be able to utilize full surround sound.
- If in Wii Mode, please set your AV Amplifier to use Dolby Pro Logic II if necessary.
