How to Configure the TV Connection Type

In this article, you'll learn how to configure the TV connection type.

What to do

  1. What type of cable are you using to connect your Wii U to your television?
    1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
    2. Using the Left Stick, scroll to the "TV" icon and press the A Button.

    4. Tap "TV Connection Type."
    5. Select "HDMI."

    7. Choose the appropriate resolution for your TV, or press the X Button to detect the resolution automatically.
      • You can find information about your TV's max resolution in its user guide.
    8. Tap "OK" to confirm or "Back" to change to a different resolution.
    9. Tap "OK" to confirm the resolution setting.
    1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
    2. Using the Left Stick, scroll to the "TV" icon and press the A Button.

    4. Tap "TV Connection Type."
    5. Select "Non-HDMI." The correct resolution will automatically be applied.
    6. Tap "OK" to confirm or "Back" to change to a different resolution.
    7. Tap "OK" to confirm the resolution setting.
    8. Select the aspect ratio of your TV.
      • You can find information about your TV's aspect ratio settings in its user guide.
      • If you select 4:3 aspect ratio, some parts of the display may be cut off.

    10. Tap "OK" to confirm the aspect ratio setting.
    1. From the Wii U Menu, select "System Settings."
    2. Using the Left Stick, scroll to the "TV" icon and press the A Button.
    3. Tap "TV Connection Type."

    5. Select "Non-HDMI."
    6. Choose the appropriate resolution for your TV.
      • You can find information about your TV's max resolution in its user guide.
      • If you choose 480i or 480p you will need to choose your aspect ratio setting. If you select the 4:3 aspect ratio, some parts of the display may be cut off.
    7. Tap "OK" to confirm or "Back" to change to a different resolution.
    8. Tap "OK" to confirm the resolution setting.
