Wii U GamePad's Touch Screen Doesn't Work or Isn't Calibrated Properly
Wii U
The information in this article can help you when the Wii U GamePad's touch screen is not working properly, or isn't registering input correctly.
What to do
- Ensure the Wii U console is placed to minimize interference. It is best if the Wii U console is out in the open. Ensure that the Wii U console is not:
- Behind a TV
- Near an aquarium or other large container of water
- Placed in or under a metal object
- Pressed against a large amount of wires and cords
- Within three to four feet of another wireless device, such as a wireless speaker system or a wireless access point
- Check for possible sources of interference and turn them off. Interference can be caused by devices like the following:
- Wireless devices, such as cell phones and tablets
- Wireless headsets not designed to work with the Wii U
- Microwaves
- Wireless speaker systems
- Cordless phones
- Reset the L and R Sticks to a neutral position.
- If you are currently using a screen protector, please remove it.
- Check around the edges of the Wii U GamePad for debris that may have lodged between the screen and the housing.
- If debris is found, attempt to gently remove it. Do not use any sharp or hard objects to try and remove it.
- Calibrate the Wii U GamePad's touch screen.
- If you are unable to operate the Wii U Menu properly using the Touch Screen, use the +Control Pad and the A button instead.
- Power off the Wii U console and Wii U GamePad, wait 15 seconds, and power them back on. While the system is powering back on, ensure you do not touch the L and R Sticks, touchscreen, or any other buttons.
