Transferring content from one Nintendo system to another

The ability to transfer content from one Nintendo console to another is possible in most situations. How this can be done depends on which console, and whether or not the original console is in working order. It is not possible to go chronologically backwards in terms of console generations though, such as transferring data from a Nintendo Switch 2 to a Nintendo Switch.
