How to Connect the Wii to the Internet with a Wired Connection

Step by step instructions on how to connect the Wii to the Internet using a wired connection.

Notes:

  • Connecting the Wii console to the Internet using a wired connection requires the use of the Wii LAN Adapter (sold separately). Many non-Nintendo manufactured USB LAN adapters will not work with the Wii console system.
  • The Wii LAN adapter plugs into the Wii console's USB port, and allows the connection of a wired router directly to the Wii Console with an Ethernet cable.
  • The Wii mini does not support online functionality. The Wii LAN adapter will not function even if it is connected to the Wii mini's USB port.

What to Do:

  2. From the Wii Main Menu, select the Wii icon from the bottom left.

  3. Select "Wii Settings" to access the "Wii System Settings" menu.

  4. Using the arrow on the right side of the screen, scroll to page two and select "Internet."

  5. Next, select "Connection Settings."

  6. Select "Connection 1: None"

  7. Select "Wired Connection."

  8. Then select "OK" on the next screen. At this point your Wii console will attempt to make a connection with your wired router.
