How to Boot the Wii U Console into the Wii Menu

Wii U

In this article, you'll learn how to boot the Wii U into the Wii Menu.

Note
  • If you have previously booted into Wii Mode with a user account, you may not be prompted to sync a Wii Remote.
  • Once these steps have been performed for a user account, you will be able to boot into the Wii Menu automatically.
  • If the most recent system update has been installed, the Wii U GamePad will be turned on by default when booting into Wii Mode. You may turn the Wii U GamePad off while in Wii Mode.
  • If the Quick Start Menu is currently enabled, you will not be able to boot into Wii Mode with the Wii U GamePad. Use the Wii Remote to boot into Wii Mode, or disable the Quick Start Menu.

Complete these Steps

  1. Ensure that the Sensor Bar is connected to the Wii U and placed correctly.
  2. Power on the Wii U console and then press and hold down the B Button on the Wii U GamePad, Wii Remote, or Wii U Pro Controller when you see the Wii U logo splash screen. If this does not work, you may need to wait a few seconds after seeing the Wii U logo screen before hitting the button on a Wii Remote.
  3. Select a user, if there is more than one user account on the Wii U console.
